Is it time to re-organise European competitions?
Question:Are you old enough to remember the European Cup? The winners of every league in Europe gained entry to it and they played a simple knock-out basis. It was a real honour to qualify for it. Teams finishing from 2nd to 4th (depending on league size) gained entry to the UEFA Cup. And teams who won their domestic cup went into the Cup Winners Cup.
I'm aware of the financial rewards the Champions League brings but the format is a joke. No European competition should have 4 teams from the same country in it. The Champions League killed the Cup Winners Cup and its slowly killing the UEFA Cup. No-one cares about it anymore because ALL the big clubs are in the Champions League every season. Because of this the 'big' clubs are getting richer every. Every year you can guess 5 or 6 of the teams that will qualify for the quarter finals because its so bloody predictable.
Bring back the European Cup

agreed the 'champions league' should be for champions only! i.e. winners of their domestic league only.not for runners up adn certainly not for 3rd and 4th placers! and it should be knockout ties from the start - none of this mini league nonsense before the real ties begin. and it should be called the European Champions Cup - not 'league'! but it won't happen- cos it's all about money these days.Why Is Soccer So Boring to watch? I like the idea, however I'm afraid it will never happen because UEFA make too much money with this format. One idea would be to have the winners of the UEFA cup to qualify for the Champions League the following season. This would give incentives to win the UEFA and make it more worthwhile to enter.

i agree entirely with everything you said. it is no longer about the champions from each european country,its about each winner & every tom, dick, & harry who finish within 10 points of them.why not reform the whole thing & bring in teams from the eastern bloc. far east, etc, you also forgot to mention the inter-toto cup,where the winners i believe are entered into the uefa cup,qualifing rounds. [ bring back the european cup]It must be the only competition you can come second

i agree, the old style was much better, and more exciting with that element of luck of the draw.you could have a proper champions cup,
a proper CWC,

For me, keep the present format, change the name. Who wants to see just the champions of all the little countries all over europe play each other when you have games like Chelsea against Liverpool in the group stages. The reason was it will never go away is because uefa and all the major leagues around Europe are all afraid of the G14 forming their own break away super league which would include the top 20 teams in the uefa familyIs David Beckham going to help the U.S. soccer teams to invest even more on soccer?
yep i agreei don't no how uefa have the audacity too call it Champions league when half the team competing aint even league champions (e.g Liverpool)
also the UEFA cup is rammed with 2many teams aswell
