Do you agree that David Beckham will have no effect on increasing soccer's popularity in the United States?

Question:People here just don't like the sport. He will arrive with a lot of hype.

They will automatically assume he's some amazing goal scorer and when goals don't magically appear, American fans will be turned off, again, by a sport they consider boring and slow.

Soccer in America?

whats soccer?

Which english premiership teams have never been relegated from the top division ?

I completely disagree. Every soccer playing kid in America will be jacked to the moon behind this move and those casual fans that only watch World Cup will now have the incentive to watch club soccer.

Think of this about scoring goals - if not him in this league, then who? There will be a dramatic increase in goals scored for LA Galaxy.

How can i get the hootest football nnnnnews from all over the world uing the internet?

You never know. It could be different. I think by bringing him here, it'll put a lot of attention on the sport because of his high marketability.

Which manchester united players havent scored yet this season?

Yes. He's old and slow anyways. Freddy Adu was more exciting and now he's gone to Europe.

I agree, i think he is wasting himself as a soccer player in an american soccer team!

Who will win between france and the ukraine on june 2nd?

Either the signing of Davis Beckham will be a bold move that pays off for the MLS or it will be a financial disaster for the league/LA Galaxy. I don't blame Beckham for taking the money. If someone offered me 5 years/$250 million, I would sign that contract in blood.

This signing is in hopes that Beckham can do for the MLS what Pele did for the old North American Soccer League in the 70's. I like to never say never, but I don't see how the Beckham signing is going to change the lack of popularity of soccer here in the United States.

I wish soccer well. But the reality is that unlike many countries where soccer(football) is either the only sport or one of a few sports in competition in the sports business, the MLS has to compete with a wide variety of sporting leagues for the entertainment dollar. At the end of the day they will be still outdone by the NFL, MLB, NBA, NASCAR, golf, etc.

Arsenal 2-1 Bolton, is that enough for the Gunners to secure fourth spot ?

Couldn't agree more. There'll be some interest generated from the hype, but it will be brief.

Who/what was the influence for you to follow your team? who would be the worst team for your kid to support ?

I think MLS is far better equipped to handle this than the NASL was in the 70s. every kid in the USA plays soccer now if they're into sports at all. that wasn't the case 30 years ago.

i think mls also realizes that they don't have a product where nbc can pick up a game of the week every saturday afternoon and send it into every home in the country. the popularity of soccer is a regional thing here. dc/virginia, north carolina, south texas, and most of the west coast will be excited for this. for everyone else in the country, beckham is now going to be a face. he'll be in every third tv commercial broadcast for the next 10 years. this is an impact pele never had, and couldn't have had.

1. beckham speaks english
2. his wife is a quasi-celebrity
3. it's 2006

this will be the biggest thing ever for soccer in the us. it already is. do a google news search for beckham. every newspaper in the country is picking this up.

Any England players playing outside of the EPL?

Mark theses words, David Beckham will lift Soccer to new heights in the new world.
