I am a 8u soccer coach and was wondering what is the best way to teach positioning?
At this age the players have a tendency to bunch up after the ball so I wanted to work on teaching the importance of positioning and space. Thanks.

I also use a lot of fun games that sneak in learning.

a fun drill for them to run would be the pass and go, once they see how it works, it should spread em out in the games.
Try this one. place all the kids where you want them on the field. define an area on the field where each kid can move about in. they must stay in that defined area. Have the coach dribble a ball around the field between each player. no two areas should touch and the kids will keep their spacing. as they get older the space grows with their understanding of the flow of the game.
To Wind boy. Do you have issues?? you seem a bit angry?
positioning and tactics are best learned by playing games, let them play teams that are better and older they will learn by watching/losing.IMO at u8 its much more important to learn ball skills. Touch develops much better with the younger kids then when they get older. They will understand positioning and maintaining shape when they get older but if they don't learn to dribble and collect the ball they have a much harder time as they get older.
