Lacrosse goalies leave?

I love lacrosse and I have been to many games. But one thing I don't understand, and I have seen this in all 4 professional games [boxla] I've been to..is that the goalie leaves the crease and sits with the rest of the players in the box? In the middle of play? Sure the ball is on the other side of the field but it is possible that a goal is scored. I don't understand this strategy at all. Answer?

In boxla you can pull the goalie at anytime during play. Just like in hockey. However, i would presume what you are seeing is a delayed penalty and the goalie goes to the bench for an extra player. The only way the offending team can score is if the team that pulled the goalie scores on their own net, which is not likely to happen. So the goalie runs to the bench and gets to sit down and take a breather for a minute.
