Have you been to a NASCAR event?
Question:If you have, help me out here... a friend of mine went once and sasid he'd never do it again, but it's something every sports fan should do at least once.
So:
1- how much are tickets?
2- Do I need earplugs?
3- do you really get hit with little bits of rubber if you ar right down by the track?
4- who should I root for?
Thanks in advance from a nascar know nothing.
Answers:
Why do I Ollie South when I do a trick?
1- Tickets vary in price from track to track. (ie. Bristol and Daytona are the most popular races and can get pricey. I went to Texas Motor Speedway and sat 3 rows from the wall on the pit side for $100 per person)2- You will want to bring earplugs with you if you don't plan on carrying a radio scanner and headphones with you. I personally would rent a scanner at the race so you can listen to the drivers talk to their crew chief while they are in the pits. Its pretty cool. Its inexpensive to rent them and they are preprogrammed.
3- Depending on how close you sit to a wall, you will get hit with rubber but theyre so small its not a problem. I would recommend sitting up high anyways. You can see more of the track :)
4- DALE JR!!
Does cycling count as a sport?
I've been to several races like Atlanta and Talladega growing up because my parents (and even grandparents) were huge fans. I don't know how much tickets are nowadays since my father got them free from his company and we've even had one of the race cars and crew chiefs at our house. It’s been a good ten years since I’ve been anyway. You don't just have to have earplugs but like everything else it won't hurt. My family always had one of those radio headset things so you can hear what's going on from MRN (motor racing network) and we traded it around. I also don't remember rubber flying but a lot of this is going to depend on where you sit.The main things you will need for many races (which occur during the summer) is sunscreen (unless you’re very dark) and a hat because even if you're somewhat dark being out there in the sun that long can be very damaging whether you see it or not. It’s amazing how many people don’t understand this. Then you need refreshments, a seat cushion, and (in the opinion of many) a little game or something to do since you have to wait for a long time for the race to begin and there's all that traffic going in and out.
What your friend might be referring to is the whole party crowd that you get with so many sports. Many people are major NASCAR/ARCA fans and the parties can be out of this world although I never got into that. You definitely see the evidence though and they’re wired by the time the race gets started. It’s not just a family event let me tell you. The best time I ever had at a race was the time one of my father's friends took his camper and we were out there in the crowds but still inside where it's cool and eating food we'd grilled, etc. In terms of who to cheer for we'd always have small bets amongst ourselves like each betting for a few dollars on several drivers just to make it a little more fun. I would often win a little money because I'd bet on Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and he would win so many races. Overall, I'd say it can be fun in the right conditions depending on who you're with but you gotta remember there is massive traffic, (usually) heat, and lots of "downtime" so if you go plan to accommodate for that.
