97 VW GOLF. I have trouble starting car?

Question:WHEN I TRY TO START THE CAR IT WONT START. I HAVE TO PULL THE STEERING WHEEL AROUND TO THE RIGHT BEORE IT WILL START.
DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM OR DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
WOULD APPRECIATE ANY REPLYS.

3. After you get your Golf fixed, you should get your shift key fixed. It is stuck, which makes your messages annoying to read.
