I think it's popular because unlike all other pro sports, nothing athletically separates a pro golfer from an amature. Basketball they are taller and faster, football bigger and stronger and so on. Plus, Tiger has taken golf, and transformed it from a "game" to a sport. Just look at the impact he has on tournament purses compared to 'Before Tiger'.Because it's so easy to play.
