When do I use more expensive golf balls?
Question:I shoot high 70, low 80 on an average day. I currently play Nike Power Distance Soft, or something like that. Would a Pro V1 or high end golf ball be benificial to my game? If not, when would it be? What is the difference between the Nike PD soft and a Pro V?
Thankx

Since you are obviously a good player with a fairly consistent swing you would ultimately be best served by testing all of the major golf ball brands on a launch monitor. Any assistant pro or retail guy worth his salt will be able to fit you to a golf ball that is optimal to your swing, launch angle, spin rate and swing speed... just like they do for the PGA pros. The best thing is they will usually do it for very cheap or free at big time retailers like Edwin Watts, Golfsmith or Dick's Sporting Goods.
The Pro V1 is a great golf ball, and it revolutionized how balls were made 7 years ago. Today every company in the biz has something on the market that is as good or better in many ways... in fact the guy who invented the Pro-V1, Dean Snell, now makes balls for TaylorMade.
So get into a pro shop or facility that has a launch monitor and test your options, you might find that the best ball for your golf swing is something you never even considered as an option.
good luck and happy golfing!

You use more expensive balls when you are trying to impress someone. When no one is around, Walmart house brand will do just fineuse it when ur trying to kick your friends butt in golf

The Nike Powersoft are actually a great ball for the price. The Pro V1 is a nice ball, but unless you are going for more spin and checking on the green you don't need it.Par 3 185yrds wat club the best?
I like to use a Pro V because I feel I have more control on my chips and pitches with it. I have friends I play golf with regularly that use all different kinds of balls and it doesn't really change their game.I believe that unless you are a scratch golfer that needs to be able to shape a shot and spin the ball or get it to check, that the ball is just a matter of preference. In some cases, it may just be a mental thing. If you play well with the ball you are using and are happy with your control, why change?
If you want to see how you play with a Pro V, then buy a sleeve and give them a try. If you want to stay with Nike and have similar results to the Pro V, then try the Nike One Ultimate Platinum or Black. Tiger uses the Platinum.
What do you get for those hole in one prizes?
If you're playing that well, you should be able to beat most average players with any ball.If I was shooting that well, I'd wait until either the Pro-V1 is on sale or I can maybe pick up some Nike One or Ignite balls. Then I'd go to a field somewhere and hit a few to see if I really felt like it was worth the investment.
I'm shooting 100's. I use the cheapest Nike balls I can find. The reason is most of my buddies play with Wilson, Maxfli or Titleist and I can always figure which is mine by the swoosh.
You're ready. Personally I like the Nike. It has just as much tech built into it without the premium price. Savings buys more range balls or rounds.
It depends what type of game you play. If you are a straight hitter who plays lots of bump and runs and doesn't need the additional spin around the greens, then Nike PD is fine. However if you want to work the ball hitting draws and fades, then it will be much easier as the Pro V1 has a lot more spin, so it is easier to work the ball. Also it will spin more around the green.
After saying this, it doesn't make a huge difference in what ball you play. In tournaments i like to tee up the Pro V1 or the Callaway Hx Tour 56. otherwise I play with any old ball I have, and it doesn't have much of an effect on my game.
When you feel your game is at its best and you have confidence. Days when 300 yard holes are reachable off the tee - these balls only really back a difference around the green and off the tee but don't go wasting them on a bad round.
