Lately I have been "shanking" the ball (hitting off the hosel). Don't know how or why but I cant fix it. help

I can go years without this happening! It happened once at a driving range a few weeks ago with a p-wedge, and now it creeps into every round I have played since then. Have shanked with every club except the driver. Cannot for the life of me fix it. Probably most prevalent with the shorter irons. NO confidence left with the PW at all! Help! I was a low-mid 80s player before this. I can't figure out how I am able to repeatedly hit the hosel and not the clubface!!

Golf Rule.?

I think it might be a combination of distance from the ball and "suck" in your gut while executing the swing.

Also, pay attention to swing path. Good luck.

How do you count the yardage on a golf scorecard?

maybe its not in your grip. try taking a half-step back off the ball.

St Clere's Golf Course Club Restaurant - has anyone eaten there recently?

You're taking the club outside the right swing plane and hitting outside-in. Try taking the club black over your back foot instep and deliver an inside-out swing from a more open stance.

Do you know any tricks to getting a tee time at Torrey Pines?

you are standing too close to the ball - this is why it happens with your shorter irons because we are closer to the ball with our shorter clubs - stand back from the ball, line up the ball with the toe of the club and focus on the back inside portion of the ball - it happens to me once a year or so and I natural stand closer to the ball because I play a fade and I have to really step back - good luck

Is john daly playing in the US Open this year?

Jim, were twins, your situation is identicle to mine, its like a virus, it just shows up.....i aint played golf in 2 months because of it, but i have logged plenty of backyard time with the 60 and 54 degree wedges cause thats where mine were showing up the worst..what all these guys have said is good, i beleive ive fixed my problems through taking a lighter grip on the club, pretty much only gripping the club with one hand, i WILL NOT recommend this for anyone else, but its helped me, i just found i was getting to busy with my right hand. Nothing i said is going to help, im just here to wish you luck and just PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE
