Golf Help - Just learning!?
Question:I am a huge sports lover and am now trying out golf. So I have been going to the range and hitting some balls around finally have a pretty good swing. I played 9 holes last night and did well. I even hit the ball over a lake and actually made close to the green. Anyway can someone tell me the differences in distance to the right iron to use. 9,8,7,etc. I hope this makes sense if not forget it.
Also is it worth taking lessons?

Have you ever witnessed or shot a "hole in one"?
Sounds like you're a natural. Your question definitely makes sense...however, It's hard to say which iron for which distance because each individual has a different swing speed, trajectory etc. Without knowing how far you hit any of your clubs it's impossible to tell you which club to use at which distances. Having said that, I've been playing for about 10 years now and I find that I get approximately 10-15 yards further distance each club I go up...for example: I hit my 9 iron about 125, 8 iron 140, 7 iron 150-160.3 iron about 210.Since you're just starting out I would strongly suggest lessons..Golf is all about developing a sound and most importantly, repeatable swing so it's extremely important to develop good habits from the start...a good teaching professional will save you a lot of time and frustration by assisting you in developing strong fundamentals which will make the game more enjoyable.

There is a very easy way to figure out your your yards for each of your clubs. Go to the range and hit 5 balls with each club. Then werite down all the yardages and take the highest and lowest yards. Then bring that peice of paper or note card out on the course to see what club you should useAny reviews or input on the Adams GT3 irons for men?
Taking golf lessons will be a real benefit to you over the long run and keep you from becoming frustrated when you hit some bad shots. Everyone does hit bad shot but it really important to understand why that happened. You will begin to understand the distance that the ball carries with practice. Playing on course is good experience as well because it will force you to focus on the next shot rather than just hitting another practice ball at the range. Good success in the future and don't forget about the putting game. It counts for half of your score. How do you earn points in golf?
If you are a beginner, you will probably hit those clubs around the same distance. The best thing I can tell you is to experiment with different clubs on the course. You might hit 3 balls from the same distance with each one of those clubs. As for lessons, it depends on how much money you can afford to spend on lessons and how willing you are to take them. I never took a lesson in my life, and I'm a pretty good golfer. I learned mostly from reading golf magazines.Hi! Of course your question makes sense! The thing is, you and i have diffrent swings and strength, so its hard for to say how much distance you´ll get out of each club. And since you are getting started, it might still be hard for you to get under the ball and get good contact with 9 and 8 irons. But since you are an athlete, i´m gonna take my guess.
Calculate 75-80 yards with your pitch-in.
Some 85-95 yards with 9
95-105 with 8 iron
115-125 with 7 iron
125-135 with 6 iron
135-145 with 5 iron
And so on!
I took a couple of lessons when i was a kid, but couldn´t stand it... they were ruining golf for me. But i´m a kind of learn it yourself guy. Yes, it causes me a lot of headaches, but that´s the way i like it. Lessons did help my dad, my brother and some of my firends. Basically it gets you more involved in the game... but the truth is that practice is all that matters. Golf is a very jelous sport, you have to be out there constantly! Jusr remeber your golf skills are always a work in progress... for everyone! You need to learn to adjust for what ever is wrong in specific days!
Good luck, and drinks are on you after your first hole in one!
Who was the first golfer to be named Associated Press male athlete of the year, in 1932?
Ok, you probably know this already. Numbering on the irons indicates distance, the more lofty a club, the higher and shorter a ball will go (besides wedges, the loftier club is a nine iron, mine gives me 130 yards) The difference between each iron is probably ten yards, although different golfers have different distances.
