Probably when the season ends. Espically in the East I see it going down to the last game.Would hockey be better off without composite sticks?
Well, if you look at the standings on NHL.com, you will see when teams clinch a playoff spot, it will be indicated. Its' been really close this year, so we probalby won't know anytime soon.I have found the end of the regular season to be the most reliable time.
Will Ruff be coach of the year after the Sabres reverse sweep?
The end of the regular season is sometimes in April. Once it is over, the top teams get their buy and the rest of the teams play down until they get to the end of the playoffs.Yeah like the rest said at the end of the season. But I can give you this, IMO 95pts would be a nice solid number for the amount of points to get into the playoffs (don't know the exact number but that seems like a good one). So, if you look at a team like Buffalo (85 pts) they need to win 5 of their next 22 (5 x 2 pts per win). So you can get an idea of what "your team" needs to do to get in the playoffs.
Any of the teams with 80+ points are pretty much locks for the playoffs (barring huge collapses) but beyoned them like the others said it will be very close in the East, and potentially in the West if Colorado, Edmonton, or The Blues?!? can get on a roll.
And it is not necessarily the top 8 point totals that get into the playoffs.
