On the rare occasion when it does ice it would be too thin for skates but for kids that want to go sliding on the ice like they were skating would get plastic grocery bags and then place them over their shoes use a rubber band to hold them in place around the ankle and just slide on those. If you push down hard enough with the side of your foot or your heel you can stop otherwise you just kind of glide.
