15 years for 67.5 million? Crazy or genius?

Question:I must admit, I laughed at this deal when it was first announced. I still see lots of posts deploring it. I must say that I was wrong. In hindsight this may go down as one of the best deals ever and maybe Garth Snow (I hate him) is a genius. I could see other teams follow this lead.
Let me explain why- Garth Snow as a goalie probably saw that this guy did indeed have what it takes so he gets that deal done. So, the reality is yes, for the first couple of years of this deal, he is overpaid at 4.5 million a year BUT IMO he is already a top 10 goaltender and in 3 -4 years will be a top 5 and maybe in 6 or 7 years a top 3 so let's assume that in 5 years (rising salaries/cap #'s) that a top 5 goalie is making 8-9 million (seems right) then Dipietro is getting half of that and still locked up for 10 years at that price. Snow also bought his UFA from him so in 5 years he can't just jump ship to the highest bidder. I can admit when I was wrong. You'll see what I mean in 10 years. Thoughts?

My opinion genius! why? because if that means you have that solid netminder for 15 years.

Are hockey fights in th ECHL staged?

well Kolzig is a good goalie and could of gotten more if trade. just been on a bad team for years.

its a bad move i think, yes he can get better as he did this year but in the long run they wont be able to sign top stars in the near future cause of this big contract. that's the only down side of this deal i think.

Bob Lobl…>>>that is a HUGE contract for a player that hasn't proving him self yet. so a $4.5 million for him is HUGE.

Which nhl team has scored the fastest 3 goals in one game?

I think 15 years is a little long for a goalie but who knows.

This is one of those deals you really won't know if it was crazy or genius for several years.

Personally I don't think Di Pietro is that good of a goalie that I would want to be stuck with him for 15 years. I think he is going to be one of those goalies that their career is not a long one.

sgoldperson--"you pay him his worth and less if he starts to fall"? He's got a contract. He gets paid 4.5 million a year whether he wins 40 games or loses 40 games. That's what is so chancy about signing someone for so much for so long. You have to continue to pay them the big bucks even if they start playing bad.

Jordan Staal vs. Eric Staal? Who's the better brother?

I still think 15 years is too long. There is a "no-trade clause" if I am not mistaken as well. That means you are stuck with him, for better or worse, unless he is willing to leave. Sure you don't pay him much and probably pay him his worth if he starts to fall, but you are still stuck with him.

Who was the captain of the red wings before stevie yzermen?

It's too long. Its a bargain right now while he's in his prime but anything can happen. He gets a bad injury and spends a seasons rehabbing comes back and never regains his pre injury form, becomes unhappy that his contract is low in comparison to other goalies and becomes a cancer in the room. We don't know what can happen. If everything is as it is now the contract will be a work of genius but if anything goes wrong they are stuck with a contract for a hell of a long time
