You know what they say about pride. The Sabres need to continue improving their defensive play if they want to be successful in the post-season. You never see 5-3 or 6-5 games in the playoffs, and that was what they thrived on during most of the regular season. The Devils were a challenge all season because of their tight defensive style, and that's only going to be taken to the next level now that the playoffs are upon us. Connolly and Afinogenov are definitely a boost, but only crazy people think that a team will find playoff success on offense alone. Every shot counts; every one that doesn't find the back of the net has the potential to start a rush in the other direction. Miller needs to stay on point and unhurt, or the Sabres are done. He has the potential to be truly great, but don't kid yourself; he's no Martin Brodeur or Dominic Hasek at this point in his career. Don't get all POed now and think I'm going to put "I <3 Maple Leafs 4-E" at the bottom of this answer. I'm a die-hard Sabres fan and have been since I was 11 years old. by die-hard I mean poster hanging, banner waving, mechandise wearing, every regular season game watching, conference rival tracking, out hockey-talking my male friends, willing to take a bullet for Rick Jeanneret, frightening my roommate until she cowers in the corner until the game is over, screaming so much the neighbors pound on the wall, die-hard. That said, I like to think I know a bit about hockey as a sport and I can see my favorite team objectively at some level. I support them and I cheer like a crazy lady when they do well, yell and throw things when they don't, and always believe that THIS could be the year that belongs to my boys in blue and gold, but I can admit they have weaknesses that have to be addressed if that dream is going to see fruition.

i am from buffalo and i think we have the most potential to win the stanley cup. but i think we have our weak spots such as penalty kill. but there has been better teams from the past that can be today's buffalo sabres. any team can just sprout and win from nowhere
