Could next year's Red Wings team have a big downfall?

Question:When I look at their roster, I see alot of old guys (even after losing Shanny and Yzerman). Datsyuk and Zetterberg are their up and comers but after that all I see are alot of guys closer to 40yrs. old than 30 yrs. old. Lidstrom is getting up there (still great though but 37 next year, Schneider (UFA anyways) is almost 40, Chelios and Hasek are probably done.
I suppose the good news is they will have some cap space although Chelios and Hasek don't make anything anyway-actually they are a steal---1.6 million for BOTH of them this year.
Osgood is not a great option and I don't think Howard was all that this year (though not positive).
Lidstrom is the glue of this team and if he were to decide to retire (I know he has talked about it before) then I think they are a team in trouble. Pretty harsh critisism for a team that battled for President's Trophy to the end and really, has been a model of consistency but I wouldn't be shocked to see them change places with Chicago next year.

Answers:

Columbus Blue Jackets? Rick Nash?

I think Lebda will be a good defenceman--no Lidstrom-- but he will do well. Krownwall is going to be a great defenceman if he can stay healthy. He doesn't seen to get 'normal' injuries. All of his injuries are biggies so that may hinder his career.

I think Filpupula, Hudler are going to be good.

They can still get a few years out of Draper and Maltby.

I think Lidstrom has 2 years left on his contract.

Their biggest problem is definitely goaltending. Hasek needs to retire. Osgood is fine as a back up but they need a good starter.

Do the New York Rangers suck! or its just me?

ya they are going down

go blackhawks

How come there's no Norwegian players in the NHL?

Don't down grade the Wings yet. No one has retired and the playoffs have barely started.

Now, they do have a few older guys that play key roles but I don't see much of a down fall if those guys left after this year. It will hurt to lose guys like Cheli and Dom and Nick and Matt but they've always been able to play after aging stars have gone. They have people they're developing and I'm sure Ken Holland will find people in the draft and on the market.

Why is Gary Bettman still around?

Dunno, me (and everyone else) thought that would happen THIS year and the year before that and in 2003. Lidstrom doesn't look like he's lost a whole lot yet and even without the people you mentioned there is still a lot of talent. And they are in a weak division too. I doubt another fight for the president's trophy but I can't see them missing the playoffs either.

Roberto Luongo's team?

As much as I like the Wings, it looms on the horizon. Of course as was said above, I kinda expected it already with losing Yzerman, McCarty and Shanny, so who knows?

Should teams play 4 on 4 in O.T.?

hockey players play till like late fortys but i think hasek needs to retire

Who is the best two way player?

I just think if they lose hasek, theyre going down. If they lose lidstrom, lets hope they dont end up like the flyers (sorry).

Why is it that none of the Devils/Thrashers first round games are played on US Television?

I think the wings will be fine next year. I think Chelios will still be around and do his job just as well. Hasek is probibly done after this year so we will probibly be looking for a better goal even though I think Osgood could do the job. Lindstrom will be as dominant as he has been over his whole carrer in detroit. Datsyuk and Zetterberg will be even better than they have been from what i have seen. They get better and better and more fun to watch as time goes on. Everyone counted us out this year saying that loosing Shanny and Yzerman was going to kill us. see where we are now.

Do you prefer Crosby or Ovechkin?

Every year the EVERYONE jumps on the "Red Wings are going to have a let down this year" bandwagon. (After the salary cap forced them to reduce their player's salaries, after Yzerman retired, blah blah blah)

And every year the Red Wings are at or near the top of the league throught the regular season (Yes, I know they have had some dissapointing playoff runs, but this isn't the "downfall"). I understand where these predictions come from. I mean, one of these years they're going to be right, and then everyone is going to be so proud of themselves for their "miraculous predictions".

BUT I just think that this isn't happening. Not next year atleast.

Sure, as always, our players are getting older. However, the Red Wings organization has conisistently found a great balance of experience and youth. Our system is developing talent for the future while still being consistent winners. Everyone always complains about how the Wings go out and buy players, yet we develop our most consistent and long-standing talent (Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Lidstrom, Holmstrom, Osgood, etc, etc, etc.). Players want to come to Detroit because they know how well the city and organization embrases them. So, maybe the Red Wings might go down from this year's Conference winning regular season performance. Maybe they will lose in the playoffs. But I have full confidence that the organization will do everything it has to so they can bring in players and put together a solid team.

Best and Worst Drafting Team?

I think its all going to fall on the goal tending. Up front I don't see a dynamic 2-3 lines next year, but no way would they slide as low as Chicago. There is way too much pride, expectation, and fan support in that city. They'll deal with the changes and do whatever they have to to compete. They aren't my beloved Bruins after all.

Who is he ?

It might happen in several years, but not next year. Chelios isnt retiring, Lidstrom and Schnieder arent retiring, and Hasek said he might retire based on how the playoffs work out. Lang probably wont come back next year so that will free up a lot of cap space. Detroit also has a lot of good young talent developing in other leagues. Detroit has really good management between Holland, Yzerman, Jim Nill, Bowman, and Devellano (I doubt I spelt that right). I really wouldnt worry too much about the Wings though, the whole organization really knows what its doing.

What is some good hockey warm up music?

they do have a lot of veterans that may retire at the end of this year, but my thing is why wait for a wingies downfall? it occured in last year's playoffs and it looks like if dominic's groin holds up they are only delaying the inevitable. ohh yeah that lidstrom guy should let scott niedermeyer win the norris this year, red wings S U C K !
