Out of that group, my best bet for a sophomore jinx would be Backstrom, but you never know. It just seems like goalies lately have much touble being consistent from year to year. For the Bruins, Raycroft and Toivonen went through career seasons and both of them flunked the following season. Giguere also had trouble after the first Ducks Stanley Cup stint where he was unstoppable and then couldn't save a bowling ball. Why is the flyers arena SO QUIET?!?
Backstrom.yeah he had a good year with a not so great team but the Wild's D was great. Capitals have Ovechkin and Semin but their D is atrocious.case and point they picked up Brashear when PHI let him go, he needs to retire. Last good goalie to go to a bottom of the barrel team was Khabibulin to Chicago, and we've seen the results of that merger. I guess you could also argue Luongo to Panthers.Would Gretzky survive in to days NHL?
Is Getzlaf a rookie? I think it will be Stastny as the Rockies are on a decline.Even though the islanders won are the leafs still going or are they out?
Staal won't get those Sh numbers again, but he does not play on the power play, only Even strength and penalty kills. He doesn't' get a lot of assists because of that. he doesn't have the luxury of passing like you do on the power play. The fact that he scores almost as much as Malkin who plays on the power play and has a lot more chances, is just unreal. he leads the NHL in shot percentage too.I"m thinking that either Malkin or Stasny will be the big busts. they'll still be good, sure, but not as great as this year. Staal is the real deal here. He's going to be one of the best players on that team for years.
