You would simply call them a martial artist. Kung Fu is just the specific discipline in which they practice martial arts.David Caridenne

The LegendKung fu or gongfu or Gung Fu (功夫, Pinyin: gōngfu) is a well-known Chinese term often used by speakers of the English language to refer to Chinese martial arts. Its original meaning is somewhat different, referring to one's expertise in any skill, not necessarily martial.
Someone whom studies a certain disipline of martial arts that has originated in China may be called a practitioner of said martial art.
ex: Wing Chun Practitioner, White Crane Practitioner etc...

That would depend on the quality and realistic quality and application of thier school and training.Granted, I train in Chinese Martial Arts, so I am harder on CMAs than most people because I am sick of bs teachers giving CMAs a bad name.
1- A student who goes to a CMA school and learns to fight, and trains realistically would be a Martial Artist- thats it, no special term for them that you wouldn't give to anyone else who wants to learn to fight, CMA is a means to an end.
2- A Chunner. Typically a derogatory term for anyone studying Wing Chun (ving tsun, wing tsun or ving chun- same thing, but no one can agree on a spelling). Generally people crap on wing chun for various reasons. largely because of claims of "anti-grappling" techniques that don't work against real grapplers, but work againt crapplers (grapplers with poor technique).
3- A rube- someone who was sold a bill of goods by a bad teacher that gives money for lessons but isn't actually taught how to fight- this term is not solely limited to CMA students, but also many other arts and schools. Any claims of "chi power" or such generally fall under this category. There is no shame in bieng a rube, rubes are the victim, the danger is that a rube can become a LARPer after discovery of his status.
4- A LARPer. The worst of the bunch, right up there with trekkies and SCA freaks. They love to play "dress up" and go to school to play patty cake with notions of spirituality and they learn nothing. Generally schools that have you dressing up in chinese garb and don't teach you how to fight, or instead do dance (shaolin) is like this. LARP = Live Action Role Play. This is a harsh way to call a crappy school, but I personally think the line is drawn when the art and student knows or should have known his techniques don't work, but he still goes to class to play dress up and continues thier little pretend martial arts under thier own conditions and rulesets where the things learning actually do work.
a Martial Artist, a practitioner, Martial Arts stylist, or simply a student since you can never master everything Martial Arts has to offer.
