Has anyone heard of Master Ching Hai?
Get up at 5:30pm or earlier, head over to the West Lake banks. Start from Park 1 and walk all the way up to Park 7, you'll find Yang, Chen, Wu, and the other Wu style practioners up and down the lake edges in all these parks. While the practioners are by the throng, most of them do it for health only and don't do it the way it was meant to be used. I saw, perhaps, three or four that actually looked like they know how to use their art. Hangzhou is a city that goes to sleep early, especially for the Taichi crowd, so it'll be difficult to find evening lessons. There's a woman that teaches basic Shaolin and a few modern wushu guys by the water too, with their flimsy weapons trying to look "deadly." While you are there, also check out the old guy doing calligraphy on the pavement with the giant brush and bucket of water. Simply amazing penmanship.
