How can some martial artists tolerate blows on their stomach or chest?


I saw some martial artists making demonstartions about tolerating blows on their chest or stomach. How can they do it?

getting hit in the chest a lot. it also helps not to have too much air in your lungs.

yeah yeah stomach muscles and all that but even a dude with huge stomach muscles will not necessarily be able to take a hit.

Blows to the chest and stomach can be tolerated by exhaling completely just as the blow arrives. Blows to the solar plexus are tolerated over time by being hit there over and over during practice.

Do any of you matial artists actually know how many belts there really are in the traditional styles?

After getting hit often, it doesn't hurt as much, mind over matter, and tightening their abdomen muscles. Think about tightening your thighs, and then punching it. It doesn't hurt as much as if they weren't tightened.

There are a number of ways to do this and usually not only one, but several of these techniques are employed at once. 1) stregnthen your muscles. 2) breathing breathing out while absorbing a hit always reduces the pain 3) moving in, if you reduce the time and legnth someone hits you they cant build up momentum power 4) physcical conditioning, if you take hits to your abdominal region quite often, your abdominal muscles will learn to react before the brunt of the force and tighten on impact 5) mental conditioning part of learning focus is to block out pain or redirect it.

the chest is bones and stuff, so that one can be easily tolerated.

As for stomach, there are iron body arts and ways of getting hit without getting hurt by not focusing on the punch. That's something you learn in ki-aikido. Also in shaolin i beleive

um, you get hit a lot when your in any type of MA so over time you develop extremely hard stomach and chest muscles and learn proper breathing techniques.after a while it doesnt even hurt to get hit. oh yeah not to mention the tens of thousands of ab workouts you do while training.
