The "pose" or stance, was indeed the crane style or crane posture. The kick he performed was a jumping front kick or mae tobi geri (nidan geri is actually a double level kick, double kick or "2 kicks").If you look closely, when he jumps he actually throws his back leg- the leg he was standing on- and kicks with that leg, then lands momentarily on his "bad leg" and switches up again. It would have been better for him to throw that kick and collapse when he tried to land- cause he landed on his bad leg.
