Why is synchronised swimming classed as an Olympic sport?

It's very fancy but it is more like ballet and art, than a proper sport. I am sure it is very hard work and all that, but can it honestly be classified as a 'sport' and be an Olympic sport? So what classifies a 'sport? for the Olympics?

It's an Olympic sport because the Olympic committee voted to include it in the Olympics. Also, it may look pretty, but it also requires a large amount of physical control. To be a synchronised swimmer, you need to be very physically fit. It's not easy, it's quite difficult to do. They truly are athletes!

And I don't even like synchronised swimming.
