How do you schedule track and field events?
Answers:
The suggested order of events for duals, league and conventional invitational meets (special relay meets excluded) is:
400 Meter Relay
1600 Meter Run
110 Meter High Hurdles
400 Meter Dash
100 Meter Dash
800 Meter Dash
300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles
200 Meter Dash
3200 Meter Run
1600 Meter Relay
Each event will last between 10 minutes (including starter's instructions and timer's results) and 20 minutes for longer races or more time time consuming events like the hurdles.
Field events generally start before the running events and are given a 1-hour time limit. Some of these run concurently (Long Jump, Discus, Pole Vault, and after these are completed, the High Jump, Triple Jump, and Shot Put)
Long Jump
Pole Vault
Discus
Triple Jump
High Jump
Shot Put

Some high school associations have different events. For example, some run a 4x200 relay.
Junior high meets would have a different set of events.
Collegate meets would have the 400m hurdles and could have 5K, 10K and steeplechase added to the running events
Multiteam meets where it is necessary to run preliminary races have a different schedule. If the meet includes the decathlon, it is contested over a two-day period.
