first of all you dont want to run on your toes. so at least your not doing that. running on your toes is like putting on the breaks everytime you take a step. you should always run heel to toe. the thing is to make your steps quick and get em off the ground quick and drive your knees. stay relaxed and remember your upper body strength has alot to do with your speed. get strong and keep training. good luck.

well u shouldn't run on ur heels for it is not good 2 have pressure on ur heels while running so I guess its a bad habit that u should get out of before it gets worse!!

You should not feel yourself impacting on the heel. If you are running easy the foot plant should be more flat footed. Have your foot coming rearward at the same speed you are moving forward, so you are almost pawing the ground. Since I assume you are running distance and not sprinting then do not run on the balls of your feet. Land basically flat and roll off of the front of your foot. If you land on your heels it is too much of a shock to your legs and back and you are planting too far ahead of your center of gravity. Think about pushing off from behind. You do not lengthen your stride by reaching out in front, but by pushing off.

these are some strange responses , let me start by saying I coach track for 180 aau kids in tallahassee fl, and ran at fsu , I never taught or have been taught to ever run on my heels unless your a racewalker. one, you will develope shinsplits, or even worse a stress fracture, two always, always always run on the balls of your feet, not your toes but the balls , look at the cheetah fastesdt mammal, u want to paw the ground, lije a cat, dont run flat footed unless ur want to lose. Heel to toe is only good if your in the marching band.
