Penultimate Step?
I'm a high school long jumper with a best so far of 22-2, and I have no idea what people mean by the "penultimate step" that I should be doing to help my takeoff. I've tried to read stuff about it, but I don't quite understand how to do it without messing up my stride pattern. Could someone help me with an intelligent explanation, not just common sense stuff?

The Penultimate (2nd to last) Step:dorsiflexed ankle prior to ground contact, then a rolling contact of the foot, not too far in front of the body, so that braking is minimized, include a slight lowering of the body, so to not change your posture and cause deceleration.
What kind of training do you have to have to be on the olympic equestrian team?
It is the next to last step, the one before the take off. You should allow your center of gravity to settle a little on this step so you can drive up. It is subtle, and you should run at about 7/8 speed so you can control your body when you convert your horizontal speed to more vertical speed in your jump.More Questions & Answers...
