while your running when you get to that point were your tired and want to stop what can you do to keep your self going?

My cross country coach always said try to run faster, because you use different muscles. In later life, I see Coach was full of balony. However, he had us do lots of reps on hills. Hill work builds strength and builds endurance.
Now if you find yourself wearing out in the race, slow down. Recover a bit. Maintain as much contact as you can with the pack - you don't want to get too far back. When you feel stronger, pick a target runner ahead. Get that guy or girl. Then pick another, one runner at a time. If you can't get many, get them in the next race.
Cross country is a wonderful sport. I think in all my athletic career, I enjoyed cross country the best. Every course at every school was different (ours was a killer!). You ran in parks, on roads, in the hills above schools and towns.
