In order to enter the olympics you must be the best in the country. Only amature althletes can entre the olympics and they therefore so not get paid. The way that these athletes 'get paid' is through sponsorships and some even work with companies that support athletes such as McDonalds and Home Depot/Reno Depot. Most athletes who compete at the olympics are nationally carded meaning that they are competing at a national level. The governement supports these nationally carded athletes by giving them money to help them along with their lives and these athletes can choose how to spend this money. Most nationally carded athletes I know spend it on rent or coaching. Each countries selection processes are governed by that particular Sports governing body. Most athletes are then taken in the top 3 at an Olympic Team Trials if having achieved the Olympic qualifying standard-*Track & field* for instance which I know about is like this.

And no you do not get "paid". You are considered amateurs, most are paid by their sponsors in trust, the Olympic games or Olympic committee themselves do not pay you.
