USA won 103 medals in 2004 and 97 in 2000. Keep in mind we don't even do well in sports such as handball, field hockey, table tennis, bad mitten, just to name a few.China won 63 in 2004 and 59 in 2000. So they're moving up and never discount the home nation advantage, but will they win medals in the pool other then diving? Can they improve their medal count in team sports (only medal women's volleyball gold 2004- IE last 2 Olympics) as host nation they automatically have a team in all sports.
Look China is rising just look at athletics and tennis, but 64 medals is a big deficit. I still say the USA , but it will be close.
Russia may not be the USSR , but they can really cut into the lead that USA will have. 2004 they won 92 medals (27 G, 27 S, 38 Bronze) Putin is really boosting the revenue the sports federation's get by getting Russian Oligarchs (one source OIL) to donate money.
