Most importantly you have to have confidence. That's the only way you can achieve it. Once you have that, you can try. Make sure people are present so you aren't alone and get hurt, you can be seriously injured.

Back flips: To do a back flip, you should know how to do a back handspring and things similar to that.
Start standing. Bend your knees a little bit, then start to lean back. While you are leaning back, you should be ready to push your feet off the ground as hard as you can. Jump up, back, spin around, and tuck your legs into your stomach REAL TIGHT. You should be rotated over by now and landing on your feet.

Back handsprings: Practice on a mat (or trampoline, though I think you need to do this in a gym). When you feel you are falling, its time to jump and jump hard! Keep your arms straight and strong and push off. Keep arms by your head at all times!
Arch a Little, but if you over arch it is a BIG mess.
Bend your knees slightly, arch a little bit, and push you shoulders open as much as you can. Then using your stomach, back, and arm muscles, snap your body back to a hollow position, pushing off your hands, and land on your feet on the floor in front of the board/mat.
Put it all together you should be able to do a back handspring.

the only thing i can offer is this:

once your in motion..don't stop...be confident and follow through...the worse that can happen once your in motion is it won't look pretty after you COMPLETE it...but if you don't follow through you could injure yourself get what i am saying? once your in motion you WILL COMPLETE it.

honestly it is all about believing it. do it in your head first.

practice jumping which i am sure you have...and have you had someone assist you with it first? once you have had someone assist you with it alot it helps. have you done a back hand spring on the lawn and with hands? if you can do that imagine how easy it is without?

the way to go about this stuff is with help...someone to help you go through your "flip" process...after that it is easy.

no one can make you confident but you...just KNOW you can by practice and BELIEVE!
