I do gymnastics and I just got my period.?
I use the pad but Im worried about when I do handstands or if when I go upside down if it will leak or not. I tried tampons but they were uncomfortable.

You can get a free sample from Instead's web site – http://www.softcup.com, or you can get a bell-shaped cup that give you 3-12 months to try them out and get a refund if you don't like them - http://www.divacup.com - http://www.thekeeper.com - http://www.mooncup.co.uk - http://www.lunette.fi - They are internal like tampons but nothing shows on the outside, they are easier to use and have a lot less health risks than tampons.
Unless you are very heavy the chances of leaking are very slim whether with a pad or anything else, not only because there isn't enough blood to really leak through, but also the pad stays close to your vulva, and gravity works well to keep the blood inside of your body. You may also want to think about padded panties, like that ones you can get from Lunapads - http://www.lunapads.com/department.aspx?... – these will help keep any leaks inside the panties as well.
Free-flow will also help, many people go free-flow (i.e. not using anything at all) and some use a method that is known as 'free-flow instinctive' this is when a girl/woman learns to recognise when the blood is coming out of their bodies so they can go to the toilet to empty the blood out. Although going totally free-flow might not be for you it might be helpful as if you learn to recognise when the blood is leaving your body you can nip off to the bathroom rather than just relying on pads.
Worst comes to worst you can always just avoid doing gymnastics when you are on your period, but really there is no reason to, periods don't stop you from doing anything you would normally do when not on your period, you just need to get used to living with your period.

Use a tampon. How are the flags under the olympic ice skating rink changed for each race?
try a different tampon with a lower absorbency.. it does help. I never used tampons until gymnastics and then I had to. The pad WILL mess up your routine! They get in the way and are usually bulky thru your leotard. What do professional muslim athletes do in the fasting month?
Go on the pill. End of period.I understand not wanting to miss practice when meet season is just around the corner. Try using the "juniors" type tampon, or wear a pair of small cut panties that your pad will fit snug in. If you can see the panties through the leo try to wear a pair of the micro-mini work-out shorts. This should help hold the pad in place and you won't need to be so self-conscience during any of your routines. Good-luck this season! My daughter is a competitive gymnast.
