In biathlon shooting, what's a split bullet?

Why is the women's hurdles event 100m and the men's 110m?

Biathlon is made up of 2 parts, the skiing and the shooting.
You shoot at targets and try to get them to fall back. A split bullet is one that hits half on and half off the target, sometimes making it fall, sometimes not. They can really make or break the time bonus in a Biathlon.
