Weight cathegories in female gymnastics?
Wouldnt introducing cathegories stimulate more people to practice this discipline? Isnt it ridiculous to just watch 1.3 meter, 30 kg, 13 year old, china type children doing things only such physical types can do? Why not admire the gymnastical capabilities of heavier and taller physical types within their respected physics?

Would you rathe date Shawn White or Orlando Bloom?
Interesting. I do think it is popular enough to do that. This might work in wrestling or boxing, or whatever, but I don't think it would work well in subjective sports like Gymnastics or Figure Skating. Usually, heavier weight classes cannot compete in lower ones, but lower can compete in higher classes. This would eventually wind up back at the same spot we are at now, with the "heavy-weight" champion being only 98lbs.
You would run into more controversies. Imagine Svetlana Khorkina never being able to compete against Shannon Miller, because of Sveta's height, weight or age. There will be more controversy and more people saying someone or the other is not a real champion.
I do believe there should be minimum physical requirements. But you would have to change the whole culture of gymnastics to get away from our current aesthetics.
