Well, as with anything that you risk assess, you could ask the same question about anything and it would be equally vague. "Is it safe to drive a car?", "Is it safe to live on your own?", "Is it safe to walk alone?".As with anything solo, so long as you know the risks, are aware of the possible consequences and how to control those risks if you choose to, then it's down to personal choice. There is no "yes" or "no" to your question and since you have not provided anymore information about where you're going walking, what equipment you own, there is little I can say to advise you.
I've been hiking and camping on my own several times, sometimes I've left a routeplan with someone, sometimes not. It's up to you. Only you know how aware and in control you are of the situation and environment and only you can decide how much risk you want to take.

Solo camping is perfectly safe, as is solo hiking. Actually, solo anything is almost always safer than non-solo anything. But, I'll stick with camping and hiking here. It gets dangerous to camp or hike solo only under two conditions:1) When you are no longer solo. This can happen when a bear decides your tent is his tent. Having someone else with you who can get a bear out of your tent is a lot easier than doing it yourself. Really.
or,
2) When you no longer wish to be solo. This can happen when you twist your ankle on the day the biggest blizzard in a hundred years comes along or when you forgot that the toilet paper is still in your backpack and it's in the tent with the bear. Having someone with you to get the toilet paper can save you from using a pad of moss.
Hope that helps! Happy Camping/Hiking!
Why does my underwear turn brown when I swim in the creek out back?
Camping alone is awesome. As is camping with others. Start off staying in the general campgrounds and trip by trip you can work your way into the backcountry.Bring the needed saftey items like a cell phone with charger, good maps, quality first aid kit, proper clothing and the list goes on. Always have water handy.
Do not go hiking unless others are informed of your destination and arrival time. Never stray too far from the beaten path. Get emergency phone numbers for the area you are in before you camp.
Be polite, friendly and helpful to other campers, but keep to yourself mostly. Others campers will likely do the same.
But FOR SURE...trust your judgement! If any thought or feeling makes you uncomfortable, leave the area. Your own good judgement is your best survival tool.
What large fish is Mallacoota famous for producing?
everybody is telling you to bring a cell phone, but there are totally ways to go solo without a phone.1) go hiking in a place where there are many people hiking through. (this way you won't be sitting by yourself on the trail for too long if you hurt yourself)
2) make sure you bring all of your equipment because there won't be anybody else with you that remembered it
3) make sure you don't get hypothermia in the middle of the night
4) bring a journal for when you start to go insane when you haven't had a conversation with somebody else in a long time.
5) make sure that somebody in the outside world knows your plans- where you will be on tuesday, where you will be on thursday, and also when you are expecting to be back.

I camp regularly by myself and have never had a problem. However, I don't do a whole lot of hiking alone, because I am afraid I might get hurt somehow and nobody would know. I would also carry a cell phone, although in a lot of hiking areas there is no reception. What are the best bass fishing lakes in the mid west?
Solo camping and hiking is one of the most tranquil things you can do. However, make sure that you leave an itinerary with somebody that details your location and when you are expected back. Sign in at any trailhead logbooks. I wouldn't rely too much on a cell phone. If you're in the backcountry, chances are there will be no reception.More Questions & Answers...
