Surfing... I am trying to get into surfing... I don't have a board or a wet suit yet, what do you recommend?

I live in RI so I need a wetsuit... I have a surfing pack from Dakine which will be great... what kind of upkeep for a board? Any cool magazines you can recommend? Any help is appreciated!
