Why do guns kick up not down?
Answers:
We are looking into buying a Polaris Ranger TM. Are they any good?
A gun will recoil straight back from the bore, but this can translate to an upward torque due to the shape of the grip/stock. On a conventional long gun, the grip & buttstock are below the bore axis, creating a lever with the stock as the fulcrum. Same thing with handguns, the grip is below the axis of the bore and the gun, upon being pushed back along the bore axis, will rotate back pivoting around the trigger hand. They actually kick straight back. But your arm doesn't bend that way. You elbow does, however, bend up.
It's a little thing called Physics.
How can I replace the foam in the ends of a canoe?
I would think mainly because the contact point on your body or hand is below the line of the path of the bullet. The force would go directly opposite to the projectile. The pressure against your point of contact will cause it to pivot since it is not in direct line with the force. This would also deflect some of the force in a new direction lessening the amount of shock(recoil) that the shooter has to absorb.Thinking of buying a shotgun, any suggestions?
the force that propels the bullet forward also pushes the gun backward against the shouder/arm and travels back into the bodypushing body backward while feet are still in same position on ground. What grade of aluminum do i need for an aluminum crossbow prod?
Yeah...what they said. Although I do have a Llama 45 acp that kicks down..don't ask why it just does, it hasn't had any modifications to it ever just kicks down for some reason.Does somebody have or know someone with a Winchester 1000B Synthetic Stock Break Barrel Air rifle?
Hold the gun upside down and fire the gun will be hard to shoot but you will see it has to do with the way your arm bends and like everyone said physics.Any experience fly fishing the Naugatuck River in Connecticut?
Why do guns kick up and not down? Inertia: The tendency of a body at rest to remain at rest or to resist motion. When you discharge a gun the bullet takes the path of least resistance, out the end of the barrel. The force that drives the bullet forward also drives the gun backward. The body holding the gun tends to remain at rest, or resist the backward motion of the gun. The gun itself will then take the path of least resistance, UPWARD, because that is how your elbows bend.H
How long does a fish hook stay in a fishes mouth? i have a bet on this one.?
They're pointed up to begin with, a little (to compensate for the difference between line of sight and bullet trajectory), and the grip or stock is below the level of the barrel/chamber. Your shoulder, for a long gun, or the web of your hand, for a handgun, is the fulcrum point of a lever.Because the line of rearward movement (which runs down the center of the barrel and chamber) is higher than the gun's Center of Mass. It causes rotational torque in the direction that lifts the muzzle up.
It's not the shooter's arm or hand contact point causing the rotation, although this may amplify the effect.
If you lay a gun on it's side on the ground and had a way to pull the trigger, it would still rotate muzzle up.
If you designed a gun with the barrel below the action, it would rotate down, pivoting on the Center of Mass.
This is why pistols with very heavy barrels or very heavy slides are much more resistant to muzzle flip. It is being noted by one guy here that "muzzle flip" is very distinct from "recoil", but that recoil can be very strong and muzzle flip can be minimal.
