Where can i find fishing information about my area?

Question:I am going camping in a couple weeks and i would like to know where i can find some specific fishing information. I will be in about the middle of indiana.

What fish are most abundant/active this time of year?
What bait to use for these fish?
what technique works best with these fish?

I have some people who have never fished before and i really want to make sure they have the best chances possible to actually catch something. Thanks.

Being from middle Indiana myself and a fisherman of sorts, I can tell you that Blue Gill are the fish to go after this time of the year. About two feet deep, a couple of feet out, and wigglers are by far the best bait. Also try bee moths if you can keep the fish from stealing them. The first week of April last year my buddy and I caught 36 Blue Gills in an hour and a half then it got to dark and we were in a tricky spot, so we had to hang it up. Crappie bite descent as well. Also, early morning and late afternoon, but that's the same about everywhere.

When you get your fishing license they usually have a 2007 Fishing Guide and Regulations book you can have for free. This will tell you stocking dates. If you are going to this place for the first time then I would just guarantee to myself that I ain't catching nothing. This way you feel better if you do and until you fished am area for awhile then you won't know where the "spot" is. Try to get an idea of where people are fishing and what they are using and you can always ask the local bait and tackle store but I would just go get some free night crawlers from your local baseball field and bring a camera.

Ask the local DNR. About regulations but Pike should be very aggressive this time of year also the Pan Fish should be fairly turned on.The best bet is to go to the local tackle shop and ask around.Bass fishing I believe is not a good idea and probably not in season.

When you get to where you are going , go to the nearest wal-mart and they should have a map or book map with the lakes in the are in , it should have best baits to use for specific species , water levels, what fish are found there etc. hope it helps, if you don't find it there look at nearest bait shop. Also local knowledge from the bait shop is about the best info you can get since you have never fished the are before.
