1. all states have differing laws, so you would have to confirm with your state.2. If you are licensed to carry a concealed weapon, i do not believe their are restrictions as to what the weapon has to be.
3. altering a shotgun to make it small enough to conceal (sawed off) may make the weapon itself against the law to own.

It depends on the state. Here in Ohio, it's a Concealed Handgun License, and as the name implies is only valid for handguns.Interestingly, Ohio has an affirmative defense to carrying a concealed weapon "if a prudent man would be justified in going armed" or along those lines that was removed for handguns when CCW passed a few years ago, but it is still in place for long guns. Good luck succeeding with it in court, though.
