Who makes the best 2-speed deep sea fishing reels?
Who make better reels, Shimano or Avet.? Looking for some feedback on reels betwen $250 - $500. Also what rods to you recommend?

Shimano makes very good reels. But I preffer to use Daiwa reels {Saltist & Saltiga}. You would need to look at the type of fish you targeting before you buy a reel.Remember it's not the size of the reel that couts but the gear ratio. Saltist & Saltiga = 6.4.1 {very fast}

I don't know about Avet reels only that they are starting to show up on some of the Long Range sport fishers out ofSan Diego,Ca . I own a Penn 50sw and am very happy with it's performance. I also have the Shimano TLD 20 & 30 both are very good reel for the price. If you want a good quality reel for a good price, I would suggest you go with Shimano, the low matinece and easy cleaning. As far as rods I would stick with the best Calstar or Seeker, both rod manufacturers have excelent products Good luck.
