I have a mild case of cerebral palsy, and am unable to stand on my own. I would like to take up knife-throwing just for fun, and am wondering if I could do it effectively while seated. Also, what type of knife should a beginner look for? Thank you.

Yes, throwing from a seated position is quite possible. The only problem when compared to throwing from a standing position is that you cannot get as much body movement into the throw. Almost all of the momentum that is imparted into the knife when thrown from a seated position comes from the arm and upper body. When the knife is thrown from a standing position, it enabled the thrower to get more power from his leg position and enables him to get more of his body behind the throw. If you have sufficient use of your arms and want to get into knife throwing, all I can say is GO FOR IT! I can't tell you how to throw from a seated position, even though I have done it a few times because I only did it as a novelty thing and was not confined to a wheel chair. If you know of any muzzleloader shooters in your area, check with them. Throwing knives and tomahawks is one of the things that they do for competition. Maybe one of them can help you with some instruction and throwing tips. As another benefit, they will most likely welcome you with open arms to their competitions and provide you with some absolutely great fellowship. As for the knife to start with, Id recommend a fairly large throwing knife. The larger the knife, within reason, the easier it is to throw. Small knives are difficult to throw and would be a source of unwanted frustration. Go big! Once you get the hang of throwing a knife, you will most likely want to get a throwing tomahawk to add to your fun. Good luck.
