Well depending on what you're fishing for, you could use a fly rod with popping bugs for brim ( perch ) , bass , or depending on how it's rigged, even catfish. Or use a casting rod and reel combo ( either open or closed faced ) using a weighted line you can fish for catfish, weighted line with a cork / float with a hook at the end or what's called a carolina rig for bass or using crank baits for bass or spinner baits for bass / brim. There's endless types of rods and reels from the wal-mart special to the most expensive of wal-marts rod and reels. So many different types out there you have to make up your mind exactly what you want to fish for. I hoped this helped you out.
