Question:I'm looking to buy a new gun, and the Schmitt-Ruben (sniper variant) looks like a good buy. What is good about it, and where does it fall short?

12 guage question?

I have a 1942 K31(schmidt rubin) thats the most accurate centerfire iron sight firearm I own. If these rifles were produced today they'd cost over 1500 dollars due to the extensive, precise machinig of the bolt group and trigger. The pro's are countless, these rifles are accurate, dependable, well made, historical, precise and inexpensive rifles. A lot of them have the Swiss soldiers ID card under the shoulder stock butt plate, which you can research online to actually correspond with the previous owner! The cons of this rifle are 2. Ammo availability ( wolf and prvi partisan make ammo for it, and surplus can still be found) and the expense of the ammo, even tho the price is comparable to high quality high power rifle ammo, it still makes it expensive to just go to the range to fire it a few dozen times.Definately not a plinking rifle unless ammo costs don't effect you, reloading your own ammo is probably the most cost effective way of shooting one of these rifles.

I am looking for the best shotgun I can get for around $300 dollars.?

The only thing I have ever heard bad about them is that in some areas ammo is hard to find. They are super good rifles.

THe ammo can be expensive for hunting (hp or sp) you may need to order your ammo online which is also expensive.
Other than that it is a great gun.

A marlin smacked me on the face last night and it's scales cut my cheek. Should I still eat the fish?

The guns are cheap, and work really good., the ammo is not so cheap. and kinda hard to find.

Glock 22 vs Smith & Wesson M&P 40?

There old military which is not always the best when used in third world wars. But in this case there made swiss so they are better then your normal military rifles. Heres the kicker though...ammo. Its hard to find, you most likely need to buy by the case which gets pricey. But luckly the gun is cheap.

Will the barrel from a remington 870 wingmaster fit on a remington 870 express?

No matter what you want to do with the rifle, buy it anyway. They won't be making any more of them, and the value of these old pieces is going to go up over the next 10-15 years. Newly manufactured ammo is being manufactured by Wolf now, and costs will go down. Just treat it like a hunting rifle, shoot enough to maintain your proficiency, just not so much as to hurt your pocketbook.

I have owned a K-31 for over a year now, and it's a great gun. I love the smoothness of the action, and the fit of the gun to my shoulder. Very well made, and well worth the price.
