Shot placement on deer?
Question:Opinions vary, here's your chance for more.
We know broadsided archery shots are the greatest we could ask for, but what about the front chest, "back side" or even head and spinal shots?
We want humane quick kills. What works considering that?

For starters its important to note that most of these shots should NOT be done unless you know your equipment and your shooting ablitity and can hit these targets with a high percentage of accuracy. Now with that said there are several possible shots.A Possible neck shot on a whitetail deer, is aiming for the "patch" this will drop the deer quick if done correctly. Even if you miss and hit a little low it will do the job, I have gotten a deer this way with a rifle but am not ready to even consider it with a bow.
A spinal shot will also be lethal but there is the chance of damaging the backstraps when doing this shot. Again I've done this with a rifle and was lethal and a quick clean kill. still have not progressed far enough with the bow to even consider this.
Distance is also a HUGE factor, over 20 yards and i would not try this at all. 30 maybe 40 yards for the standard broadside because if I am not 100% sure that the deer or other big game will not go down quickly I will not shoot Its not worth it. If you screw up your chasing a wounded animal and thats not ethical. If you can doing quick DON"T SHOOT.
These shots are possible but NOT recommended if you don't know your shooting skill. Its better to see MANY MANY deer and not shoot and go home with nothing than to shoot and wound. Hunting is more than getting the animal its being in touch with nature... Getting a deer is just a bonus.
Thank you

I dropped a nice rack with a front on neck shot, dropped him like a rock.Like flipping a switch. No suffering, that's whats important to me.Spot-um and Ott-um I say.I had 1 187 yard head shot,it was that or nothing.5 minutes in the woods after major spinal surgery.Thank God,no dragging. Most importantly "Know Your Weapon" and Always know where your hitting.
What is my saa colt 45 serial 302214 worth. It is in firing condition?
Well, I've killed 3 deer. One I made a perfect shot...behind the front shoulder straight through the lungs and heart. She ran about 15-20 yards and died immediately. One I accidentally hit in the head, needless to say it dropped and died instantly. And the other, I hit one of the back hams..I'm surprised it even killed that one, but she fell and kicked around for a few seconds and died..I somehoe clipped a main artery with that shot because when I got her open she had tons of internal bleeding..but, I really believe the behuid the front shoulder is the best shot.I wouldn't take a shot from behind the deer, to easy to just wound the animal. A front shot, you want to make sure you don't hit too low. A rib shot right behind the front leg is the best. Hitting the lungs is the best way to make sure the animal doesn't go too far. If you insist on going for a spine shot, then I would always shoot for the neck area. If it hits the deer, it will almost always be a kill shot and you won't ruin any meat. If you think you might want to mount the animal, then go for the ribs.
