The best way and I am telliong you this coming from a professional.If you want a nice trophy I'll let you in on a secret. Large Mouth Bass love to feed early in the morning and I don't mean 2,3, or 4 pounders. I am talking LArge BAss like 12 up to 25 pounds.
Get a Chrome Zara Spook and one with Bearings inside of it so that it knocks when you shake it. I guarantee you that it will be so addicting you will stop fishing in the day time. I have caught over 300 Bass weighing over 10 lbs. I have three 14 lb Bass mounted. I have even lost a potential Wolrd record and this BAss looked like she went 24 to 25 lbs and she snapped a 17 lb test and today it is the biggest Bass in my life I have ever hooked and never landed. I really thought I had the record in the bag.
Anyhow, fish early in the morning starting at 3:00 and walk around your pond if your pond fishing and cast that top water out there in the dark. You don;t even have to see it, buit you will hear it. And twitch it in slowly and keep twitiching it so that the bearings knock. You will be amazed when you hear this giant explosion on the water and your drag begins to pull. I am not kidding you. It is additing. NOw one more thing, you may not alwayts get one to bite each time you go out so don;t get dioscouraged becasue it takles patience and perseverance. On the average I usally get two to three lunkers per week fishing just 3 hrs in the monring and get home in time to go to work.

Ok, if you read my previous answer, I apolagize. The best way to catch bass, is called the pattern. Finding the pattern is something best learned first hand, rather than from a book, or other resources, because every lake is slightly different. You have to learn how different conditions will dictate what the pattern is, and will be for each hour of each day. Because the pattern changes everyday, and every hour, learning the pattern can be difficult at first. I recommend keeping a log of the conditions, the lure used, and the retrieve used. Then referring back to it as the conditions match. Now, to actually answer your question from my opinion. I think the best way to catch bass during this type of year would be with topwater lures. Some great topwater lures would include the Rebel pop-r, a buzzbait, a Heddon Zara spook, Heddon Torpedo, etc... In that order. Nothing while bass fishing is more beautiful than popping a pop-r next to cover, and having big ol' bucketmouth strike at the lure, but miss. Only to re-hit the lure, and making contact with an erruption not soon to be forgotten. My second favorite lure, as well as many other fisherman's favorite, is the soft plastic worm. I like the YUM dinger in the watermelon color. In one of my favorite books, called "Bass Wisdom" by Homer Circle, he had done a study on colors that bass can see best, and had found that red, and yellow are the best, followed by blue, purple, and black. I prefer to use the watermelon seed color, cast near cover and usually the strike will occur on the initial fall of the worm. Actually now that I think of it, the 2 largest bass I have ever caught were on the YUM dinger, and a Rebel pop-r. Both bass over 6 pounds. I would suggest that you check oput these sites that I out links up to. They have a wealth of info for both the begginer and the pro alike. Location, temperature, water clarity, pond/lake versus river/stream... time of day, weather, and the list goes on and on.
If you are just beginning. I would recommend purchasing a few soft plastics, a decent rod and reel combination (probably a spincast combo pre-rigged with 10lb test), some worm hooks and a box/tub of night crawlers or red worms.
I personally am a fan of 6 or 7 inch grape curl tail worms and 5 or 6 inch floating worms. Either can be Carolina or Texas rigged... and in the summertime... both are dealy for catching old bucketmouth.

all depends on the structure around the body of water and the clarity as well, the clearer the water the more your bait should mimick the real thing, i use pumpkinseed color worms in clear lakes and tea stained color lakes i use a bubble gum color (pink)top water lures are great for early morning on pretty much any lake. spinerbait and buzzbaits work well swerving thru tall grasses. good luck

I like plastic worms or spinner baits. You would have more luck fishing from a boat. Just stay close to the bank and cast towards the shore. With plastic worms, Cast out and when they hit just let them fall to the bottom before you start to reel slowly. Alot of the time a bass will grab it while it falls.try using a spinner bait and give that a few casts and if nothing happens then try a texas rigged worm and fish it slowly this technique almost always works .
one other technique if you want to have some fun and break your arm off try doodlesockin' this will almost always work hands down

world record catches are caught on large bait fish such as large shiners using a balloon or a rainbow trout looking lure. But if your fishing for bass in general use a texas rigged plastic worm and worm type hook for texas rigging and drag it along the bottom slowly until you feel nothing and set the hook.
