Handgun Target Shooting- Revolver vs. Semi-auto? Accuracy issues with each?

Answers:

Which is a better handgun the Smith and Wesson M&P .40cal or the Colt .40cal or the Ruger .40cal?

depends more on the brand and its level of manufacturing, single shot are the most consistent in terms of tolerance and barrel stability, revolver next because the barrel is fixed, then come the auto loaders with a moving breech like Luger or some browning models. Last are the heavy calibre with the moving barrels. the sights do not stay in line so well and the mechanism is not as stable because it must move to function. , also solid frame revolvers are more stable than break action types. but any looseness in the manufacturing tolerances will make so much of a difference that it will over rule everything else

I'm not a firearms expert, but I would think that the calibur of the shot being fired in relation to the mass of the gun would effect the accuracy more than Revolver vs. Semi-auto. If you are comparing same calibur between revolver and semi-auto, I would think the Revolver would be heavier than the semi-auto, thus the revolver would kick a little less and would hence be more accurate on rapid-fire target shooting.

If you want a good target pistol go for a 22 cal. revolver with a 6 to 7 inch barrel. Thr ruger new model black hawk is a good choice

What is a 7mm ruger model m77 in good condition with a scope worth?

Revolver is generally more accurate, but only because it has a longer barrel, which allows more distance to stabalize and add speed to the bullet before it exits the tube. As far as hunting goes, you would want a revolver, but for self defense a semi auto is preferable.

For tack driver accuracy..a single shot handgun such as a Thompson Center Contender can't be beat. Available in calibers from 17. to 45-70 it's a matter of how much gun you need. For simple type target shooting, for example Steel Silhouete, a revolver with a 6" plus barrel will do the job. I shot a Dan Wesson 357 Super Mag for years with an 8" barrel and racked up some nice scores in Hunter Silhouete (25, 50, 75 and 100 yards) and Big Bore Silhouette (50, 100, 150 and 200 yards). As for semi autos...as with the already mentioned..they can be wickedly accurate..but you'll spend a lot more than the aforementioned. I own a Fn Herstal 5.7 which is kinda scary. It's basically a 17 caliber pistol with an attitude(http://www.fnherstal.com/). It's cranking out a 17 cal round at about 2300 feet per second with little to no muzzle jump. It's wickedly accurate.
