I bought a remington 870 Magnum. Can I shoot 3 1/2 shells?

Question:The gun I purchased reads "Remington 870 Express Magnum" on the reciever. the Barrel says it can only shoot 3 1/2 shells with "Remington 870 Express Super Mag reciever". I went on remington's website and they had no "870 Express Magnum" it was "870 Express" or "870 Express Super Magnum only" The word "SUPER" being left out on the reciever on my gun. So, is that a "Super Mag?" Can I shoot 3 1/2 shells out of it?
Thanks in advance to all sportsmen who take the time to answer this question.

When can I find nightcrawlers?

Your magnum can shoot 2-3/4" and 3" shells. To shoot 3-1/2" shells you'd need to purchase the super magnum. The 870 Express magnum came out in 1987, the 3-1/2" chambered Super Magnum came out in 1998. While your barrel is capable of shooting the 3-1/2" shells, your receiver is not. Since all the 870 Express magnum models are capable of shooting 3" shells they do not call it a "magnum" in their advertising, they only advertise the super magnum so that people know it is capable of firing the 3-1/2" shells.
I don't understand why anyone would consider it a "rip-off" to have a gun with a barrel that can shoot a 3-1/2" shell while the gun itself cannot shoot that length. It's smart of Remington to only manufacture 1 barrel for both models rather than make 2 separate barrels, one chambered for 3" and one for 3-1/2".
I've had several 870 Express models through the years and have yet to shoot a 3" shell, let alone a 3-1/2". But, I don't hunt duck or geese.

How effective is a grip safety on handgun?

I'd take the gun to a gunsmith and ask him to tell you exactly what you have and exactly what types of ammo to NOT shoot in it. A good 'smith will tell you these things as an investment in a potential customer. Above all, don't be stupid. KNOW what ammo to shoot before you do anything with a loaded gun.

I live in mo how do i obtain a handgun license without purchaseing a handgun?

The barrel is stamped with 3 1/2" magnum, Are you sure it says only? I'm pretty sure an 870 chambered for 3 1/2 inch magnum can also shoot 3" magnum and probably 2 3/4 shells as well.

How much do you call ducks?

The barrel chamber is cut for the 3 1/2" shell. But your reciever is not capable of ejecting that length of shell. Your reciever ejection port is too short.

If the barrel is stamped 2 3/4" & 3" then that is what you can use.

So it is the reciever that is not made to take the 3 1/2" shell.

You would have to buy a new shootgun to shoot that size shell.

Can gas airsoft guns work without gas I thought gas just gave it power am i wrong?

I agree with Nancy, that's a crummy deal. I have a Mossberg 835 and I can load the tube with 2 3/4", 3" and 3 1/2" and it'll keep on loading, firing, and ejecting them without a hitch. Sounds like a rip off for Remington to market the 3 1/2" receiver and barrel separately.

In .243 caliber what is the best deer hunting rifle for me?

Just put a 31/2 in shell in there fire it and see if it ejects,if not just pry the spent shell out. It wont hurt anything it just wont eject
