Whats the best all around rifle to use for game from squirrels to coyotes ? is a .17 too small for the yotes?
im looking to get a new rifle that i can use for squirrles, fox, coyote, rabbit, etc. I think that the .17,22wmr, etc. is too small for the yotes and the 204, 22-250, types are too big for the squirrels. can anyone give me a good choice for an all around small game/predator gun?

Have you ever rolled under a slow moving train?
17hmr or 22wmr is good for both squirrel and coyote, with the right bullet. Either is good for rabbit too.22-250 or .223 would be overkill for rabbit and squirrel, but would give you more confidence in a quick clean kill on yotes at longer distances. If you can afford it, get a 17hmr or 22wmr rifle, and a 22-250 or .223.Ways to Prepare Physically for a Backpacking Trip?
A .22 cal. would be the best all around. Just make sure you buy one that is capable of firing shorts and longs. Use shorts for rabbits , and long hollow points for coyotes. Is there a Wild Boar or feral pig populaton in Indiana?
Try using an 22 Hornet or a 22 magnum. I have found those are the best for the situation you are in.. Good luck with the hunting and hope you find a gun you can use,,,,Can anyone give me the addresses of authorised anschutz gun dealers in Singapore and jakarta? tnx.?
.17HMR is to small for dogs unless you are right on top of them and shoot them in the head, have you thought about maybe a shotgun instead of a rifle for hunting both?Yes 22-250 REM is way to big for squirrels if you plan on eating them,I would suggest 12 gauge shotgun for both ,you can change the chokes and use different loads for the different types of animals that you are going to hunt, use magnum loads and X full choke for yotes and use the smaller lighter loads for birds, tree rats, and bunnies,my Rem 870 express Mag does all of the above, even kills deer with the fully rifled barrel, good luck and happy huntingLooking for a tranquilizer gun?
I would highly suggest .223 as the bare minimum for coyotes at any distance further than 50 yards. Anything less .223 at a distance greater than 50 yrds, and I personally would not feel comfortable trying to humanely and effectivly take a coyote. Unfortunatly there is no such thing as the best all round when it comes to firearms. I would suggest getting a ruger 10/22 for the squirrels, and a semi or bolt gun in .225/5.56 if you are serious about shooting coyotes. Are careers in gunsmithing avaliable in the UK?
There isn't a magic caliber that can help you take game of all sizes. 22lr 22mag, .17hmr and 17mach2 are too small for coyotes on a clean kill. Even with a headshot you may just injure them. On a headshot you must hit the BRAIN! Use a .22lr for tree rats, and get a centerfire rifle for coyotes.Shotgun may be the way to go as said above. You can use buckshot for close coyotes and use 8shot for the squirells.
.22 mag should do the trick.

The only true all around gun for all of those would be a shotgun. I would use low brass 6 on squirrels though. Since I do not hunt squirrel and rabbit with a shotgun, I would go with a 223. Make sure on the rabbits and squirrels you are taking head shots though. Bit of overkill. 22 doesn't have the reach you need for coyotes really. LR are fine on the rabbits and squirrels.Thinking it over again, I would have to say 223. Not much bigger than a 22 but has more punch and range.
