Catching a deer is gonna be a very large task indeed. I have hunted my whole life and know how skiddish they are of people. Perhaps using a tranquilizer dart would be most effective. For getting good videotape in the offseason I use my own attractant which I just take a salt or mineral block and cover it with a mixture of molasses and peanut butter. You may want to check game laws in your state.. it is illegal to trap deer in some states and you are only allowed to keep a pair of two in my state and only if hand caught. Good luck !It depends on what your purpose is. If you are trapping to relocate the deer, then a large net with a trip wire or an explosive closing device is good. Trapping deer is going to be tedious , expensive and dangerous.
I know you do not want to do this but the American Indians used a flint gourge, hidden inside a some natural food, the gourge was attached to a limber sapling with sinew. When the deer tried to swallow the bait the gourge was lodged in its throat and the deer was venison.
It may be most pratical to bait the deer with corn for a few weeks and then, at night use a tranquilizer gun to dart them. It is easy tp get close to deer that are baited at night.
