Is abseilling difficult for beginners?

just curious how difficult it is for a beginner abseiller? is there much to it to become average at it so not to hold up a group doing it?

all things are slightly difficult before they are easy..of course you would hold them up slightly but only cause they are experineced. I'v been abseilling a number of times and its a pretty easy thing to pick up on. I'm not a huge fan of heights but i still enjoyed it
