What would be a better .454 casull hunting round for deer?
A Hornady 300 grain XTP or or a 300 grain WNGC hard cast bullet. I want a decent amount of expansion but don't want over penatration either...both bullets are powered by 29.5 grains of lilgun.

I don't know, but you are so gorgeous!!Hollow Points (soft points for bear/african game) are generally best for any type of hunting, expansion is always favored over penetration because animals don't wear body armor. FMJ are mostly only used for target practice/defense against armor
Even withthe XTP you will not get bullet expansion . No pistol round will expand in deer. I have tested thousands of bullets from every major calerbe and noe will expand at pistol velocities. My sone and I have killed many , many deer using pistols. we live and hunt in Alabama and Georgia and it is not uncommon for us to harvest 50 or more deer each per season. So I know what pistol cartrides will do.
Of course this does not apply to guns like the Remington Xp 100 or the Thompson Contender that fires rifle cartrides.
Elmer Keith, the greatest pistol shooter of all time, used only cast bullets. That is what I use and it works.
i use the 225grn speer mag-jhp with 28grns of 2400 powder, i have hever found any of the bullets in the deer because they went through making a very large exit hole and they were shot at less than a 100yrds.
i don't care what anyone says you don't want to be on the recieving end of that bullet.
i agree with John-h,go with the XTP's i use them in my .44 mag excellent hunting round.
