if need be

“If you were a fish, what would a fisherman want to use as bait if he really wanted to catch you quickly?

one well placed shot can kill anything.

But you will be pretty darn luck if there is a bear charging you and you getting that shot. and doing it while keeping from soiling your pants. I would recommend carrying something a little larger just in case.

Do we have an infestation of the Chinese snake fish in our lakes and rivers?

A .22 cal slug does a lot of damage becuase it will ricochet off of everything inside the body, but I would go with something that has a lot more stopping power for a quick clean kill. Dont want to make a bear or a mountain lion mad ya know.

If i have a California fishing license can i fish anywhere in California?

I hear of a rumor it once happening but I would say for all practical situations that it is not possible. The bullet would have to enter directly through an eye or ear, as that contact with the skull would cause the bullet to glance off. So, now this would mean that you would either have to get a shot from side view or be close enough to reach to its side and stick the barrel in its ear or eye. Unless that 22 lr is darn near perfectly sighted in and you can take a very well aimed shot possibly in a life or death situation, its practically useless. A handgun would be a much better choice than a rifle and preferably .357 magnum or bigger.

Salmon season in Alaska & price for license.?

You would be better to use the .22 on yourself. That way, you won't alive while being eaten by the bear or mountain lion..

My ATV isn't working, need some help?

A .22 caliber rifle does not have enough force in most cases to kill a large animal. The exception could be if you managed to hit the animal in a vital organ such as the brain. A heart or lung shot with a .22 caliber rifle would not cause the animal to die fast enough to prevent it from getting ahold of you.
There is also no electro static shock which means the animal would not feel any pain and would not even know it was hit. It takes a larger bullet with more power behind it to kill an animal of this size. The animal would not go into shock without a larger bullet with more power behind it.

Paintball players, what are your thoughts on the new DXS nitrogen systems?

I'm sure in some rare, crazy circumstance a .22 would kill a bear or cougar, but I would not depend on it to do it everytime. A .22 just doesn't have sufficient knockdown power. Heavier, larger caliber bullets in high power or magnum cartridges is a must.

If you're camping or something in bear or cougar country, I'd bring along a 12 gauge with slugs or a large caliber rifle no smaller than .30 caliber.

I want to know how to become a great fisherman... what supplies and things should I bring with me?

Well, you stand as much chance beating them to death with the gun as you would shooting them to death.

First rule of hunting, "Use enough gun"
Second rule, "Do not piss off things with big teeth and long claws"

Anyone else ready for turkey season?

This is a highly unlikely shot even for a skilled hunter/marksman. Even at 20 yrds hitting the eye of a bear/lion is not an easy shot. You may have more succes shoving the rifle down its throat while its trying to maul you to death. Firing a few rounds down its throat mite do it lol.
But realisticly you need a 30 cal or better.

I need help with a Remington XR-100 Rifle?

A few years ago in Virginia a kid hunting squirrels with a .22 shot and killed a 500 pound black bear with one shot. If it had not been an illegal kill it would be the Virginia state record.
I don't recommend hunting bears or mountain lions with a .22, but people who say you might as well have a knife are fools. When I bear hunt I use a .300 magnum and have a Glock 10mm in my pocket. If a bear attacks me while I'm squirrel hunting with a .22 the "need be" part of your question might come into play, and since I know of the kid who killed the 500 pound bear I'll empty my .22 on the bear and after that I'll either pull my Glock 10mm out to finish it or call the game wardens and tell them how I just killed a bear with a squirrel gun.

How did the pilgrams kill their turkeys back in those days ?

Good if you hit them in the right spot. Aim right above the eye or at the tear duct. If that doesen't drop them shoot them in the same spot again but on the oppsoite side. Trust me it works. I,ve been outlawing for years.

How long have you been mountain biking? What bike do you have?

Well, anything is possible. If you hit them in the right spot they might slowly bleed to death, but meanwhile they are gonna be all over you so you better have your running shoes on!

Im wondering where all the "30.06 can kill a T-rex" guys are for this question ! I seen someone even claimed to have done it by shooting out both eyes ? Tell us, how did you make such a wonderful second shot on the bear ? or did he just stand there waitng on you to re-aim for the second ?

Answer: "If need be" you would be better off pulling out a bowie knife on them. Dont get caught up in the "well placed shot" crap ! If need be, you wont be able to make that well placed shot, as these animals will be charging in full force. The answer is its not likely, and not really advisible !

My dad left me a 1911 45, it looks like it was manufactured in 1917. He had it through 3 Wars ww2 - nam?

Highly unlikely, although some hunters use a .22 to hunt mountain lion - the idea being to shoot them in/through the eye and not damage the pelt - but have a .44mag as a backup. Other than that, you would likely just really piss them off and get dead real quick, especially with a bear. If you encounter that situation then I hope you can run incredibly fast and in a zig-zag direction.

What is a good broadhead to use with crossbow?

I can recall reading hunting articles dated to the 1950's in which hunters using dogs to tree a cougar (mountain lion/puma) regularly used a .22 lr caliber handgun to SAFELY and efficiently kill them by simply shooting them broadside through both lungs. By the way, the lungs are a far bigger target than the brain and much easier to hit.

Unless the bear was about to start chewing on me, or to protect another person, I would not attempt to shoot an uninjured bear for love or money! Yes, they can be killed by a damned cool and collected expert shot who is willing to wait for the exact opportunity in which to place the shot into the brain, preferably through the ear or from behind through the back of the skull.
Under any other conditions, I suggest you try to frighten the bear away; but Never run from a bear, stand your ground; You can't outrun one and by attempting to run it will very likely pursue you, viewing you as a possible snack OOPS! did I say that, oh well!!! I hope this does help answer your question.

What is the official web site for the Remington Gun Factory?

Well maybe just maybe if you unload your entire clip into it and score a direct hit by accident. Im guessing you don't want to spend a grand on a large caliber rifle, so heres my suggestion: Go by an SKS (7.62x39 mm) which sells for as low as 200 bucks, then just take that with you, it has decent accuracy and will handle a bear or mountain lion pretty well. Ofcourse they key is still to hit a vital organ, however with a a .30 cal round it will go down alot easier then with a .22 cal round. Still I would think if you don't mind ponying up some extra cash a 12 gauge is always a good choice.

Am undecided between the Mossberg 500 or Remington 870, which one is better?

I have read articles of Mountain lions being hunters treeing lions and dispatching them with a 22LR or even the 22 Hornet.

I remember one article wrote years ago about how Old Eskimo hunters use only a 22 Hornet to kill polar bear with one well placed shot.

Now is a 22 caliber a sound choice for Loins, Tigers and bears, in my opinion NO.

But I will tell you this, if I was being attacked by a bear and all I had was a Soggy Squirrel I would do my level beast to beat that bear to death with that Soggy Squirrel.
The way I see it even a 22 LR is an improvement over a Soggy Squirrel!

So win, lose or draw, the fight on with what ever is at hand.

The way I see it the only time I’m walking around in the woods with a Soggy Squirrel is when I have the 22LR rifle or hand gun that killed the Soggy Squirrel , so I have a better weapon at hand then just the Soggy Squirrel.

I have bumped into a few black bears while out hunting small game, I always pack one of my 357 Magnums, either a Blackhawk 6 ½ inch barrel or GP100 with 6 inch barrel.

If you bump in to a big predator, don’t pick a fight and don’t Run “especially” with big cats.
If you stand your ground and make noise 99% if the time they will leave.
If you run you automatically engage their chase instinct, and you can’t out run them.

Who else thanks reintroducing the wolves was a bad mistake?

Well, theres more or a chance of you becomign its supper than it becomeing your supper, and that i dont like. Id rather have a 30-06. you might kill it if you shoot it in the eye, but i dont see any other shot as being effective on big and dangerous game.
