Bound's hubby here:

If you store your ammunition and components at (seasonal) room temperature you should be ok. Store primers in their original packaging and away from moisture. My work shop, which is not air conditioned is where the majority of my components and ammo live. It shoots great! Just make certain your ammunition is not exposed to extreme heat (fire). Try to avoid extremely long term storage. For example, I try to use my target ammo within 10 years of their "manufacture". Keep in mind, gun powder will degrade over time and lose it's umphh! Primers, if they're kept dry, should have a near indefinite life span. If you reload, take a break from reloading if you're reloading environment is experiencing high levels of humidity.

Good luck.

dry is more key than temp, but i suppose opt would be any where between 45 and 60 degrees

I just inhearited a late 1800's Parker Bros double barrell 12 guage shot-gun. Any idea what its worth?

In my own experience, stored at normal room temperature -
.357 magnum ammo that was about 25 years old was not very reliable.

I loaded up and shot a friends .357 a couple of years ago with my 25 year-old ammo and only 4 of the 6 fired the first time.
Of the two that didn't fire the first time, one fired the next time I ran it through, and the other one fired on the third try.

On the bright side, they still shot a 8" group at 80', so I probably didn't need all 6...

.22 ammo I've had stored almost as long is still fine also.

IMR 3031 powder and large rifle primers, that a friend gave me a couple of years ago, that were probably about 15 years old and stored in a garage outside were also fine.

As far as stoves go, I burn any bad reloads or ammo with the rest of the trash, without a barrel to direct and concentrate the pressure, they just go off like firecrackers (with brass cases).

Storage and transportation of over 25 lbs of smokeless gun power, but less than 100lbs requires that it (each 25lbs) be separated by at least 1 inch of wood.
More than 100lbs but less that 400lbs requires storage separated by material rated to withstand fire for 1 hour. (I just happened to be reading it today...)

Does Anyone Know Of A Firing Range In Salt Lake City?

as long as its not an extreme range. like 21-33C

But whats the more important is to keep it ammo dry.
Moisture can seep thru the primer. This is definitely bad.

If you plan to store ammo and you dont have a place with regulated humidity or you'd be in a high moisture area, try this.

Drop some clear nail polish around the primers. After the polish dries, it will seal your ammo.

What is the correct job title for a person who works at a gun range?

Ammo should ideally be stored in a cool and dry place. As a rule of thumb, if you are comfortable, the ammo will be comfortable. I store mine in my basement.
